Your Community
Because the first year of college can be overwhelming, the Gender Excellence Learning Community makes this transition exciting, educational, welcoming and much less stressful! The Gen-X theme, “Where academics meets activism,” means that you will learn how to apply your first-year classroom education to the real world around you.
You will be introduced to various campus organizations, campus activities, and to a variety of volunteer and activism opportunities in the Charlotte area, which allows you to get more acquainted with UNC Charlotte campus, as well as the surrounding area. You will also meet some amazing people! The Gender, Activism, & Leadership hosts a variety of interesting speakers, and you will have an opportunity to meet and work with the leaders of exciting community projects. So not only are you meeting friends your age in the classroom, but you are also making contacts with organizers and actors in the community!
